Sherwood yarn is an artisan hand dyed yarn company situated in the world’s greatest forest.
Rachael Cook is the founder of sherwood yarn.
From an early age and throughout my career as a molecular biologist, I have always had a passion for knitting, colour, textiles and art. After gaining my PhD and taking a career break to start my family, I had time to consider my true passions. Starting out with a lot of inspiration and a little dye, I began to experiment…..
Based in the heart of ancient Sherwood Forest where colour, history and texture emerge from the landscape, Sherwood Yarn was born. My aim is to convey the sense of colour, vitality and timeless history of this magical landscape through beautiful hand dyed yarn. This backdrop is truly inspirational and I am sure you will enjoy immersing yourself in Sherwood and its legends.
I am passionate about the quality of the materials that I use. My yarns are specially selected and spun from a family run mill with over 100 years’ experience, based in nearby Yorkshire. My colour bases are replicable and I utilise my scientific background to ensure the highest production standards. Batch sizes are limited to 6 skeins at a time and through the hand dying process subtle variation in colour is achieved, giving my hand dyed yarns their exquisite look.
Sherwood, saturated in colour, steeped in history.
